St. Moritz Park Rock

Within St. Moritz Park, the most Northeastern section of the blue hills before residential Braintree leading up to the Rattlesnake Rocks area, there are a few scattered and short crags (or highball boulders), most of which are a short walk (or visible) from Wampatuck Rd.

Most of these crags are very small or boulders and so would be a nice addition to a day at Rattlesnake Rocks or a short afternoon excursion if Quincy Quarries is crowded and one finds oneself without a rope.

If any of these crags have known names/routes and you find that I have labeled them wrongly, please feel free to change or PM me.

I will update this area with routes, etc. as I explore more.

First crag - look right when St. Moritz Pond is on your left, almost immediately upon entering the park (0.2 miles) and just as the road starts to go uphill. This crag consists of a small 15 foot double wall. There is also a worthy boulder up the hill.

Second crag - just across the street before the closed pullout onto the fireroad that parallels the Rattlesnake Rocks main crag, there is a fire road that heads east. Park along the road (there is a pullout downhill on Wampatuck Rd.) and walk on the trail. The crag and a couple satellite boulders will be visible on the left just down the hill. This crag is the same dark very fine-grained granite as Burger Boulder, bullet hard with good edges and incuts, and consists of a taller 25 foot section, a short and very hard overhanging roof, and a low wall with a couple boulder problems on top. There is a small but excellent boulder on top of the crag and a couple more in the woods surrounding.
